The Aru islands or the Aroe islands are the easternmost island group of the Indonesian island group the Moluccas and belong administratively to the province of Moluccas. The total area is 8563 km² and the highest point is 241 m. The group consists of approximately 95 low islands. The largest island is Tanahbesar (or Wokam). Other islands are Wamar (slightly off the coast of Tanahbesar), Kola, Kobroor, Maikoor and Trangan. The main islands rise to low hills and are separated from each other by meandering “channels”. Dobo is the most important port on Wamar.
